En este evento, tendrás la oportunidad de apreciar diferentes manifestaciones artísticas; artes visuales, artes escénicas, música y literatura.

Los artistas participantes iniciarán la fiesta explorando libremente cada uno de los espacios previamente recreados, cómo: "El árbol de los recuerdos", "La estructura del tiempo" en la explanada, "Las ventanas al interior", "Las rampas", "Los jardines mágicos", "El lobby", "El pasillo", etc.

Tendrás la oportunidad de jugar en cada uno de los espacios, en donde la idea es invitarte a romper con la armadura y decidas despojarte por un momento de prejuicios, de lo "aprendido" y hábitos cotidianos, dejando atrás todo lo que te limita para ser espontáneo.

No te lo pierdas, este Mayo 18 a las 7 p.m. en Biblioteca Los Mangos.

Charity Dinner at "Las Palomas Nima Bay".

We are pleased to share with you about the dinner being held this coming May 16, which will take place in the restaurant "Las Palomas Nima Bay".


We all know "Las Palomas", as they have many years in Puerto Vallarta, and this year we are pleased to invite you to this charity dinner.
This dinner is in favor of "Los Mangos Library" which, as everyone knows, its maintenance is based on fundraising and donations.

The library Los Mangos, being a recreational and cultural center of the city, provides more than 80,000 annually services, which generate large economic burden on the premises.
Throughout the years, The Mangos Library has been able to survive through donations and contributions from hundreds of people, and this time is no exception.

The event will feature a special menu, which will cost $ 120 pesos, from 6:30 pm until 1 am.
Attend, enjoy the special menu, cooperate and continue to support this great cause, that is, our public library.

Cena de beneficencia en "Las Palomas Nima Bay".

Estamos contentos de compartirles sobre la cena que se celebrará este próximo 16 de mayo, la cual se llevará a cabo en el restaurante "Las Palomas Nima Bay".

Todos conocemos a "Las Palomas", pues tienen muchísimos años en Puerto Vallarta, y este año estamos muy contentos de invitarlos a esta cena de beneficencia.
La cena es en pro de Biblioteca Los Mangos, la cual, ya como todos saben, se mantiene a base de recaudaciones y donaciones.

Biblioteca Los Mangos, al ser un centro recreativo y cultural de la ciudad, brinda al año más de 80,000 servicios, los cuales generan gran carga económica en las instalaciones.
A lo largo de los años, Biblioteca Los Mango ha podido sobrevivir gracias a las donaciones y aportaciones de cientos de personas, y esta vez no será la excepción.


El evento constará de un menú especial, que tendrá un costo de $120 pesos, desde las 6:30 p.m. hasta la 1 a.m.
Asiste, disfruta del menú especial, coopera y sigamos apoyando esta gran causa, que es, nuestra biblioteca pública.

Reading Better and Faster.

For most people, it is easy to learn to read faster. Your reading rate is often just a matter of habit. But to begin, you may need to try to change some habits and try these tips:

1. Pay attention when you read and read as if it really matters. Most people read in the same way that they watch television, i.e. in an inattentive, passive way. Reading takes effort and you must make the effort. A wise teacher once told me that you can learn anything if you do three things:
PAY ATTENTION
PAY ATTENTION and
PAY ATTENTION.
There are some simple methods that you can use to pay better attention and get more out of your textbook reading time. Different authors call it different things, but many researchers say that you will improve your comprehension if you somehow "preview" the passage before you actually sit down and read every word.
To do a preview you:

• take 30 to 60 seconds.
• look over the title of the chapter.
• look at all the headings, subheadings and marked, italic or dark print.
• look at any pictures or illustrations, charts or graphs.
• quickly skim over the passage, reading the first and last paragraph and glancing at the first sentence of every other paragraph.
• close the book and ask yourself:
• ---What is the main idea?
• ---What kind of writing is it?
• ---What is the author's purpose?

You might not think that you could possibly answer these questions with so little exposure to the material, but if you do the preview correctly, you should have some very good general ideas. If you have a general idea of what the passage is about before you really read it, you will be able to understand and remember the passage better.When you finally get to the point where you are actually slowly reading the passage, read in a "questioning" manner -as if you were seaching for something. It sometimes helps if you take the heading or title of a chapter and turn it into a question.
For example, if the heading of a section in the text is "The Causes of the Civil War", take that title and switch it into a question like: "What are the causes of the Civil War?". Now you have a goal; something to look for; something to find out. When you are goal-oriented, you are more likely to reach the goal. At least you'll remember one thing about the text which you have just read.

2. Stop talking to yourself when you read. People talk to themselves in 2 ways, by:

• vocalizing, which is the actual moving of your lips as you read, and
• subvocalizing, which is talking to yourself in your head as you silently read.

Both of these will slow you down to the point in which you find that you can't read any faster than you can speak. Speech is a relatively slow activity; for most, the average speed is about 250 WPM (words per minute).
Reading should be an activity which involves only the eyes and the brain. Vocalization ties reading to actual speaking. Try to think of reading as if you were looking at a landscape, a panorama of ideas, rather than looking at the rocks at your feet.

3. Read in thought groups. Studies have shown that when we read, our eyes must make small stops along the line. Poor readers make many, many more fixations (eyestops) than good readers. Not only does this slow you down, but it inhibits comprehension because meaning is easier to pull from groups of words rather than from individual words or even single letters. Try to read in phrases of three or four words, especially in complete clauses and prepositional phrases. Your mind may internalize them as if the whole phrase is like one big meaning-rich word.

4. Don't keep re-reading the same phrases. Poor readers habitually read and re-read the same phrase over and over again. This habit of making "regressions" doubles or triples reading time and often does not result in better comprehension. A single careful, attentive reading may not be enough for full comprehension, but is often more effective than constant regressions in the middle of a reading. It is best to work on paying closer attention the first time through. Do a preview first before the careful reading and try the tips I mentioned above. You'll remember better without the rereading.

5. Vary your reading rate to suit the difficulty and type of writing of the text. Poor readers always read at the same slow rate. An efficient reader speeds up for easier material and slows down for the hard. Some things were not meant to be read quickly at all. Legal material and very difficult text should be read slowly. Easier material and magazines and newspapers can be read quickly. Poetry and plays were meant to be performed, and if not acted out, then at least, spoken out loud orally. This obviously will conflict with good speed reading method which forbids vocalization. Religious writings and scripture were originally written to be recited and listened to by an audience which was likely to be intelligent, but illiterate. The "fun" of poetry, plays, or prayer is not really experienced if you "speed read" the text.

International Day of the Book.

On April 23, 1995, the UNESCO promulgated, for the first time, this date as the International Day of the Book, and since then, more countries organize activities to promote reading, editing industry and copyright protection.

Los Mangos Library wants to join more than a hundred countries that, each year, celebrate the book as an object, and reading as a key for social development.

This time, Los Mangos Library will do a reading-at-loud exercise in three different locations and schedules, and will invite different members of the community to read, with the intention of just sharing the pleasure of reading and to draw the attention of passers-by, hopefully igniting in them the restlessness to start this activity.

The installation of each location will consist of a sofa or chair, a banner, a microphone and speakers, and if needed, a sun umbrella. The duration in each location will be two hours minimum and three hours maximum.

The places and schedules where each point will be installed are:

•         Main access of the Palacio Municipal or the kiosk in the Main Plaza. 10-12 hrs.
•          Lazaro Cardenas Square from 12:30 to 14:30 hrs.
•          Pitillal Square from 18-20 hrs
•          Los Mangos Library from 14 to 20 hrs.

Día Internacional del Libro.

El 23 de abril de 1995 la UNESCO  promulgó por primera vez esa fecha como el Día Internacional del Libro y desde entonces cada año son más los países que, en esta fecha, organizan actividades de fomento a la lectura, promoción de la industria editorial y protección a los derechos de autor.

Biblioteca Los Mangos desea sumarse a poco más de un centenar de países que cada año celebran al libro como objeto y a la lectura como vehículo clave del desarrollo social. 

Para esta ocasión, Biblioteca Los Mangos hará un ejercicio de lectura en voz alta en tres puntos de la ciudad, en distintos horarios e invitará a diversos miembros de la comunidad a leer sin más intención que compartir el placer de la lectura y atraer la mirada de los transeúntes despertando en ellos, ojalá, la inquietud de iniciarse en esta actividad.

La instalación en cada punto seleccionado constará sólo de un sillón o silla, una bocina, un banner y un micrófono, acaso una sombrilla, donde sea necesario. La duración de cada instalación tendrá una duración de dos horas mínimo y tres horas máximo.

Los lugares y los horarios en los que se instalará cada punto de lectura:

• Acceso principal del Palacio Municipal o Kiosco de la Plaza Principal 10 a 12 hrs.
• Explanada de la Plaza Lázaro Cárdenas de 12:30 a 14:30 hrs.
• Explanada de la Plaza del Pitillal de 18 a 20 hrs.
• Explanada de Biblioteca Los Mangos de las 14 a las 20 hrs.

En la actualidad estamos permanentemente influenciados por la imagen y el relato de esa imagen, pero poco conocemos de su lenguaje y de cómo podemos hacer frente a un mejor análisis del mensaje que se nos transmite.

Objetivo: En este Taller de Apreciación Cinematográfica daremos formación para llegar a una mayor comprensión de las películas que habitualmente vemos y por tanto enriquecer el debate con nuevas herramientas.

The number of services that the library provides it´s community every year is impressive, around 80 thousand, but what is even more impressive is that this is even possible; Los Mangos Library depends basically on donations from people like you. Now and days the library doesn´t receive benefits, sponsorships or any kind of help to cover its operation, equipment and maintenance expenses. Each peso that is necessary to maintain the Library must be funded and is spent clearly and judgingly.

We need your help. Contribute to the library and feel the pride of giving your community a space where thousands of children, teenagers and adults find answers to broaden their opportunities and enrich their lives through culture.

You can help in hundreds of ways, the most important step is to take action!

Donations in cash or projects you can fund.

• Join the Friends of the Library: donate from 200 to 1000 pesos monthly during a year. You can do it online or call us and we will go.
• Fund a scholarship for a boy or girl in our summer camps: 25% of the attendees to summer camp are boys and girls from orphanages, shelters or in a situation of poverty. You may give them a unique experience during 4 weeks. Get to know our summer camps at Los Mangos Library.
• Adopt one of our main projects:  Invite your family, friends, neighbors, workmates, partners etc.  Choose a project, adopt it and help us maintain our facilities, update our equipment, among others, these today are our main needs:

1. Automating our catalog search
2. Mayor fumigation
3. New computers for the digital module for free service to users
4. New chairs for our reading room
5. Lighting and acoustics for the Benefactors Hall
6. Ceiling repair work in the reading room and lounges
7. Waterproofing the building
